SHIPS SPRING (MARCH) - Ready to put in the ground this spring as soon as your soil is workable and not muddy!
We selected these particular blueberry varieties because their flavor is truly the essence of blueberry! They are large, lovely blueberry plants potted up for you in soil in 3 quart pots (nursery pot #1). They are at least 16" tall with multiple stems, and are all ready for you to transplant! The plants shown in the last 2 pictures are representative samples of what you will receive - each plant is unique and will vary in size and shape.
The plants have been working over the fall and winter to develop strong root systems; they're currently dormant for the season and will pop with new growth in the spring!
VARIETY OPTIONS:
BLUE RAY is a HIGH-BUSH type variety. Its height at maturity is 4-6 feet and it stands upright. Ripening date around mid July in northern areas. Yield is consistent, ranging from 10-20 pounds per plant at maturity - fruit size is large with 60 berries per cup. Berry quality is firm and the color is bright blue. Blue Ray is the leading variety planted for U-Pick markets. It's also a beautiful ornamental: dark green color in the summer and burgundy red in the fall.
BRUNSWICK was found in a commercial LOW-BUSH blueberry field in New Brunswick, and was tested and evaluated in Nova Scotia. Brunswick has high vigor and will grow first year stems up to 12 inches tall. The ovate leaves are deep green and just over an inch in width. Up to 20 light blue fruits can be found on the tips of the stems. Fruits are considered fairly large with outstanding yields of fine wild flavors of the blueberry. USDA Zones 3-7.
DUKE is a HIGH-BUSH type variety; it grows to 4-6 feet and stands upright. Ripens early - towards the beginning of July in northern climates, with consistently high yields, around 10-15 pounds per plant in good conditions. Fruit is medium size, light to medium blue and have a firm skin. Quality of the fruit is excellent. The berries are produced on long stems and loose clusters. Duke is our favorite variety for early ripening and high quality fruit. It has adapted well in all blueberry growing areas in the United States, and it is a very popular choice. USDA Zones 5A-7A.
NORTH BLUE is a HIGH-BUSH/LOW-BUSH MIX type variety. Plants are short-statured, growing to a height of 20-30 inches. Ripening date is around mid July 15 in northern areas. Annual harvests of between 3 and 7 pounds of fruit per plant are possible. The light blue fruits are very large, averaging 120 berries per pound. Fruit quality is very good - firm and stores well. Growth is vigorous during the summer, and the large glossy, dark green leaves turn dark red in the fall. USDA Zones 3A-7A.
PATRIOT is a HIGH-BUSH type cultivar. Height ranges from 4-6 feet, upright and spreading. Ripens in early July in northern areas and continues until mid August. Large and firm fruit. The berry is formed on tight clusters and it tends to be flatter than other varieties. USDA Zones 3B-7A.
