This is a 3 year old shrub that is 12-24 inches tall (roots additional), coming to you BARE ROOT. It has a well developed root system, is ready for transplant, and will pop with new growth in the spring!
Plants that have gone dormant for the fall and winter will not have any leaves (or leaves will be last season’s spent growth), have no soil around their roots, and will not begin to grow again until the spring. The shrubs shown in the last 5 pictures are representative samples of what you will receive - each plant is unique and will vary in size and shape.
From time to time we also have small quantities of "baby" plants available; if in stock they will be selectable.. Babies range in height (not counting the roots) from 0"-4" and up. A height of 0" means the plant has roots and crown only; new shoots will come from the crown.
Elderberry is prized for its nutritious as well as medicinal qualities. Grow elderberries to make your own cordials, wines, liqueurs, jams, and pies! Also attracts birds and beneficial insects. Vigorous and fast growing, can reach 6x12 feet! Small white flowers transition to pendulous clusters of purple-black fruit that ripens in late summer to early fall. Self fertile but multiple plants improve fruit set. Tolerant of wet to dry soils. Sun to part shade. Approximately 2-4 years to bearing. Hardy to zone 3.
