Live Chokecherry plant (Prunus virginiana) - Bare Root

This is a 3 year old shrub that is 10-20 inches tall (roots additional), coming to you BARE ROOT. It is shipped dormant so it will not have any leaves. It has a developed root system, and will take off with new growth in the spring!

Plants that have gone dormant for the fall and winter will not have any leaves (or leaves will be last season’s spent growth), have no soil around their roots, and will not begin to grow again until the spring. The shrubs shown in the last 5 pictures are representative samples of what you will receive - each plant is unique and will vary in size and shape. (From time to time we also have small quantities of "baby" plants available; if in stock they will be selectable.)

Native to northern United States and Canada; chokecherry is a small suckering tree or large shrub with crooked branches and slender twigs forming an oval rounded crown. Flowers are small and white. Fruit is red, finally dark purple. Great for making chokecherry jam, chokecherry jelly, chokecherry syrup! Also provides food and shelter for wildlife. Self-fertile. Zones 2-6.
