Grow your own apples for pie, cider, apple butter, and fresh eating!
This is a custom grafted baby apple tree, meaning that you can select whatever variety you like! As long as we can source the scionwood, we can graft it for you!
In addition, you can pick what the size of the tree will be when it's fully mature by selecting the rootstock you would like. Available rootstocks are Standard (25-30 ft), Semi-dwarf (16-20 ft), Dwarf (8-10 ft), Super-dwarf (6-8 ft).
Here's how it works: you order now, then in the late winter and early spring we source the needed scionwood and rootstock and we graft your apple trees. Grafting means we take a scion (twig) of your desired variety and we splice it onto the main stem and roots (rootstock) that will give your tree certain characteristics like vigor, speed of fruiting, and overall height. This is how almost all apple trees are "made" since an apple seed will not actually grow into the same kind of apple! Once your tree can withstand shipping and starts to leaf out in mid- to late-spring, we ship it out to you!
Remember, these are baby apple trees: the leaves may be smaller than those in the pictures at first. However, it is not at all unusual for a newly grafted tree to grow several feet in its first season. Because these apple trees are actively growing (not dormant), they are shipped in a pot with soil (that makes them HEAVY and drives up the cost to ship). The grafting tape seen in the pictures will come off on its own as the tree grows. Apple trees begin to produce fruit in 3 - 7+ years.
